You are about to sell your car or bakkie, and the first question is always the same. What is it actually worth right now? Not what you paid for it. Not what your neighbour reckons. The real number that buyers in South Africa are paying today.

Our Car Value Calculator pulls live data from real listings across South Africa. Pick the make, model, and year. You get the minimum, average, and maximum asking price in ZAR, plus the number of listings we looked at. That is it. No guesswork, no outdated book values.

How the Calculator Works

Most online tools use a generic formula. They take the original price, subtract a flat percentage per year, and hand you a number that might be off by tens of thousands of rands. That approach ignores what is happening on the ground.

This calculator does the opposite. It scans actual vehicle ads in your region, groups them by make, model, and year, then gives you a price range. You see what the cheapest listing asks, what the most expensive one asks, and where the average sits. Three data points that tell you more than any depreciation table ever will.

Why Book Values Fall Short

Book values are updated on a schedule. The market is not. A bakkie that was easy to find six months ago could be scarce now, pushing prices up. A popular hatchback might flood the market after a new model launch, dragging prices down. Static formulas miss all of that.

Real listing data catches these shifts as they happen. If you are pricing your 2019 Toyota Hilux and the average asking price is sitting at R 320 000 while the range runs from R 275 000 to R 380 000, you know exactly where to pitch your ad.

Selling or Buying. Use the Range.

Selling? Start near the average or slightly above if your car has low kilometres and a clean service history. If a buyer offers well below the minimum, you have the data to push back or walk away.

Buying? A listing priced above the maximum is a red flag. Either the seller is chancing it or the car has extras that justify the premium. Either way, check before you commit. If you spot a deal near the bottom of the range, ask why. Low price and low kilometres could mean accident damage or outstanding finance. Run a VIN check before you transfer any money.

Get Your Number

Pick your make, model, and year. The calculator does the rest in seconds. You will see what the market looks like right now in ZAR, based on cars that are actually listed for sale today. Use that number to set your price, counter an offer, or decide if a deal is worth chasing.
